Yorktown Senior Center was established as a 501c (3) organization in April 1986 by a group of seniors seeking a way to combine a few of the local clubs into a place openly supporting the need for senior adults to socialize, and draw support from one another.
Yorktown quickly became an important member of the outreach community providing information and referrals about aging services to seniors and their families. They were the first site in the aging services network to champion Flu immunizations for senior adults by partnering with the York City Health Bureau.
Today, Yorktown is supported by the Office of Aging as a Nutrition Center. Hot lunch is served, free of charge, to its members. Membership is free to York Countians who are 60 years of age or older. Yorktown however, continues to offer much more than lunch. Determined to contribute to the overall health of our members, we offer opportunities for learning. Active seniors are healthier seniors; able to stay at home longer; able to contribute to the community-at-large.
